Sigil Crafting

There are many ways to create sigils, but I'd like to share the method I was taught. It's fairly simple, and makes crafting sigils less intimidating than some other methods make them appear. Also, it's a great method if you don't feel you have the best drawing skills...like me:)

Part One: Creating your Sigil

Step 1: Write your intention, word or phrase in the present tense. Remember to be as  specific as possible. Example: I am protected from all negative energy.

Step 2: Cross out vowels

Step 3: Cross out repeating letters, leaving the first one (Example: Daddy. You would have crossed out the A, but now you will also cross out the 2nd and 3rd D's). 

Step 4: (Not crucial, but it helps to do this in bite-seized pieces.) Arrange the remaining letters into small groups of letters with similar shapes (Example: KPDYSF. For me, KYF is one group and PDS is a separate group).

Step 5: Combine each of the groups of letters into a symbol.

Step 6: Combine all of your groups together into one Sigil. 

Notes:

• You can be creative in how you want to draw the lines and curves of the letter. They don't have to correspond with how each letter actually looks. Sometimes I create swirls and curlicues just like I would when writing in script. 
• You can dress your symbol up with dots or accentuating lines. I love constellations, so I tend to add dots to the intersecting points of my sigils to make them look like constellations in the sky. 

Part Two: Activating Your Sigil

To activate your sigil after creating it, you must destroy it. You can, of course,  copy it into your grimoire to save it and then create an additional copy to destroy to activate it. Here are methods I use depending on where I am and the circumstances:

• Draw it on a bay leaf and burn it. This is my favorite method, as burning bay leaves are super for simple wishes and intentions.
• Write it with chalk on your sidewalk and let the rain wash it away.
• If you are at the beach, draw it in the sand and let the waves wash it away. 
• Draw it with a washable marker and wash it away yourself under a running faucet. 
• Carve it into the top of a tea light candle and allow it to burn to the end.
• Draw it in lotion on your body and then rub the lotion  into your skin.
• Draw it on paper and then rip it up or burn it.
• Write it on a dry-erase board and then erase it.
• Write it in condensation on a window or mirror and allow it to fade.
